“He's not doing so well”: Chancellor Scholz injured in a sports accident

Chancellor Olaf Scholz was injured in a sports accident on Saturday. As the “Frankfurter Rundschau” reported, a planned visit to Heringen in the Hessian district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg had to be cancelled. “The chancellor had a sports accident on Saturday, he’s not doing so well,” SPD politician Michael Roth told the newspaper.

A government spokeswoman confirmed to t-online the accident. “Unfortunately, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has to cancel his appointments in Hesse this Sunday after a minor sports accident. He fell while jogging and suffered bruises on his face. His appointments in the coming week are not affected by this,” said the spokeswoman.

During his visit to Heringen, Scholz wanted to honor his party colleague Roth’s 25th anniversary in the Bundestag. Visits to events marking the start of the Hessian election campaign were also planned. “Unfortunately, all events have to be cancelled,” Roth told the “Frankfurter Rundschau”.

A new state parliament will be elected in Hesse on October 8th. The SPD’s top candidate is Interior Minister Nancy Faeser. According to the SPD state association, the official start of the election campaign in Bad Homburg will take place as planned. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will accompany Faeser, it said.
