The 45-year-old nurse who has worked for seven years in a retirement home in Fontenay-aux-Roses (Hauts-de-Seine) believes that the vaccine was developed too quickly and that we lack perspective. It is therefore opposed to any immediate vaccination and is considering drastic measures. “We are in a free country, supposedly. ‘Liberty Equality’. If that changes, I think we should change the currency too. There we become a dictatorship. We are forced to do things we do not want not do, ”she said. “I am ready to resign, to change course, not to have the vaccine,” she adds, acknowledging however that she will probably have to be vaccinated in order to be able to travel and visit her mother in Guyana.
45% of professionals in nursing homes and USLDs already vaccinated
Faced with the low vaccination coverage of some professionals, Emmanuel Macron said Monday July 12 that vaccination would be made compulsory by September 15 for health personnel, employees in hospitals, retirement homes, establishments for the disabled or the volunteers working in contact with the elderly and frail, including at home. Professionals not vaccinated from this date will be placed on unpaid leave, the time for them to comply. If they are still not vaccinated a few weeks later, they will be made redundant, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, warned on BFMTV on Tuesday.
According to Public Health France, 61% of professionals working in nursing homes and USLDs (long-term care units) have received a first dose of vaccine and 45% are fully vaccinated.
