In the text below, we can know words of Guha Balathe co-founder of the game’s developer, Velan Studios, shared with GamesIndustry.biz. He has explained the closure of the game like this:
We found that inflation was hitting very hard all over the world, especially in East Asia where free play really takes off. Inflation and currency devaluation really limited discretionary spending and affected all games that were free to play at the time. Their retention metrics needed to be much higher to break even because both that and monetization were moving in a negative direction.
We also saw that currency deflation affected our Western European audience, where monetization behavior… The savings rate had been higher during the pandemic and therefore people were consuming their savings, even though they inflation was reducing revenue, and we saw it in earnings.
Along with this, Bala has shared that he wants to “return with this title in a sequel format in the future”, although he has not offered more details.
