Director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Alexander Gintsburg said that it is impossible to say for sure that the Omicron strain of coronavirus rarely causes a severe course of the disease, such data come from countries where 60-80% of citizens are vaccinated, and in Russia those who are still vaccinated small, in people without immunity, a severe course is possible. “According to the literature, at the moment it is less and less common, but this is according to the information of European countries, where about 60-80% of the population has already been vaccinated, so it is impossible to say for sure. We still have few vaccinated people, so it is possible that the unvaccinated will have a severe course, ”Gintsburg said, answering the question whether Omicron rarely causes a severe course of the disease.

He stressed that those vaccinated with Sputnik V, most likely, the problem of a severe course of the disease after infection with the Omicron strain will not be affected at all.

Formerly immunologist, candidate of medical sciences Nikolai Kryuchkov told, most of all in the “omicron” at risk for mortality are such groups of citizens as pensioners and children under the age of three.
