Governor of Virginia and his wife test positive for COVID-19 | Pandemic | coronavirus | CCP virus

The governor of Virginia and his wife tested positive for COVID-19, the new disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, announced the diagnosis on Friday.

“As I have been reminding Virginians throughout this crisis, COVID-19 is very real and very contagious,” Northam said in a statement.

“The safety and health of our employees and close contacts are of the utmost importance to Pam and me, and we are working closely with the Health Department to make sure everyone is well cared for. We appreciate your ideas and support, but the best thing you can do for us, and most importantly, for your Virginia compatriots, is take this seriously. “

On Wednesday night, Northam, 61, received the information that a member of his staff, who works close to the family, inside the house, had developed symptoms of the new disease before testing positive.

The governor and his wife, Pamela Northam, took the test Thursday and both came back positive.

He has no symptoms while his wife is facing mild symptoms, the governor’s office reported. “Both remain in good spirits,” he added.

The couple will be isolated for 10 days but Northam will continue to work.

The Virginia Department of Health is working with Northam to track down people who had contact with him and his wife. Additionally, the Governor’s Executive Mansion and Patrick Henry’s office building were closed on Friday to allow for a deep clean.

COVID-19 severely affects a small percentage of patients and can cause death. The CCP virus, also known as SARS-CoV-2, mainly develops serious illnesses in the elderly and other sick people.

Symptoms include chills, loss of taste and smell, and fever.

The vast majority of patients recover with rest, symptom management, or hospital care.

A significant percentage of patients experience few or no symptoms, according to health officials.

The virus is believed to be spread primarily when infected people cough, sneeze or speak, emitting droplets that can fall into the mouth or nose of others nearby, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Three other governors have tested positive for COVID-19.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson, a Republican, tested positive this week as did his wife, Teresa.

“I want everyone to know that both me and the first lady are fine,” Parson declared through a video posted on Facebook. “Right now I feel good. There are no symptoms of any kind. But we have to start the quarantine procedures right now. “

The Republican Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine, tested positive but then negative three times for the new coronavirus, illustrating the punctilious nature of some COVID-19 tests.

Oklahoma’s Republican Governor Kevin Stitt tested positive for COVID-19 in the summer.
