The New York Giants will not exercise Daniel Jones’ fifth-year rookie contract option. A source reports NFL.com’s Judy Battista.

The option would be valued at $22.38 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jones will start the season in the last year of his contract. However, he could get the franchise tag in 2023 if he plays well, Battista said.

The Giants’ decision to decline Jones’ option comes as no surprise after acquiring general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.

Jones threw for 8,398 yards in the first three years of his career, scoring 45 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
