Germany's new defense minister: A bellwether gives the Bundeswehr new hope

After two months in office, Boris Pistorius has surpassed Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck as the most popular politician in the polls. How did he do that?

Boris Pistorius is panting through the deep snow, at minus 10 degrees his breath forms clouds, his cheeks are red, a green forage cap covers his skull. Deep in the forests of Lithuania, not far from the border with Belarus, the new German defense minister is practicing the defense of NATO’s eastern flank with Bundeswehr fighters. “Nice to see you here,” says the company commander at the end. He finds the fact that the commander-in-chief took part “world class”.
