At the start of the 17th round in the Bundesliga, Leipzig celebrates an easy 6-1 win against Schalke. This means that the people of Leipzig have moved up to second place, at least temporarily.
The game between Bayern Munich’s first pursuer and the bottom of the table was already decided at the break. Two early goals and a double strike before the break ensured Leipzig had a comfortable 4-0 lead at half-time, which should then noticeably reduce the intensity. Although Schalke managed to catch up ten minutes after the restart through Japan’s Soichiro Kozuki, the cup winners from Leipzig never ran the risk of giving up the game. Michael Frey made his first start in his second game for Schalke, played 80 minutes and started his team’s goal with a pass to the scorer.
While Schalke remains on 9 points after half the workload, Leipzig has now been unbeaten for 15 competitive games.
