Reach online banking app “George” again

Massive technical problems at the Erste Bank und Sparkasse resulted in a widespread failure of the online banking tool “George” on Tuesday. It was not possible for customers to access their own account and make transfers until the evening. Cash withdrawals were also affected by the failure.

The first reports of malfunctions at George occurred shortly after 8 o’clock on Tuesday: The online banking tool “George” was not available to the customers of the financial institutions. According to the company, the failure was a network problem.

Technicians were “working flat out on a solution,” as the company announced via social media. The problem could therefore be resolved in the early evening. “Our systems are available again,” writes the company on Twitter.

No transfers were possible on Tuesday, nor was it possible to access one’s own account. Cash withdrawals and card payments are also likely to have been affected by the IT problems.
