In the beginning, Corona was considered a virus, which is sometimes fatal, but in most cases mild. In the meantime, however, there are increasing reports that consequential damage remains even if the course of the disease is harmless. Doctors are seeing more and more patients who complain of shortness of breath and other complaints after surviving corona infection.
BLICK, for example, spoke to several people in June who, after surviving an infection, no longer achieved their old level of performance. A woman who had actually recovered said: «Even today I still have chest pain and feel very weak. Physical activities are hardly possible and I have a great need for rest and sleep. »
Striking patterns on the x-ray
These people may have frosted glass changes in the lungs. This is how doctors describe the changes that they see on the X-ray images. This can cause scars on the tissue. The consequences can be shortness of breath and chronic cough.
According to “Focus”, more than 40 people with Covid-19 have been treated in an inpatient clinic in Berlin. For senior physician Torsten Blum, the crucial question is whether the lung damage heals or is permanent.
He also says that the virus can not only damage the lungs, but also “heart muscle, intestines, kidneys, inner vessels and the nervous system”. But to what extent and with which patients? It remains unclear, like so much with Covid-19. (vof)
