Innsbruck – The train connections in the Tyrolean Oberland will be expanded significantly on Sunday. In the future, 19 REX trains and 30 more S-Bahn trains will be on the move there per week. The state of Tyrol announced this in a broadcast.
Around 200,000 additional rail kilometers per year. The aim is to improve the mobility offer in the Oberland. Above all, it is about a more frequent frequency at the weekend, says Mobility Minister Ingrid Felipe happily: “More trains on the weekends make it easier to switch to public transport in leisure traffic and at the same time relieve our climate”. The implementation takes place in cooperation with the Verkehrsverbund Tirol, the climate protection ministry and the ÖBB.
Every half hour between Jenbach and Telfs
From Sunday, June 13, 2021, significantly more trains will run throughout Tyrol on Saturdays and Sundays. On the Jenbach to Telfs-Pfaffenhofen route, the S4 and S5 S-Bahn lines now run every half hour. The S5 S-Bahn runs every hour via Telfs to Ötztal Bahnhof. The REX1 line runs every hour from Innsbruck via Telfs-Pfaffenhofen and Ötztal Bahnhof to Landeck.
This means that there are almost twice as many daily connections on the weekend. Guests with the destinations Telfs, Stams, Silz, Ötztal, Roppen, Imst, Imsterberg, Schönwies and Landeck should particularly benefit from this, as the faster connection not only runs every hour during the week, but now also at the same intensity on weekends.
“Getting more people to switch to the train”
ÖBB regional manager Rene Zumtobel is enthusiastic about the new connections: “Our common goal is to get more and more people to switch to the train, also and especially for leisure time use. With more trains on the weekend, we are making an attractive offer for this. As a Pitztal resident, I am even more pleased that this is happening in the Oberland this time. “
The REX1 rail replacement service between Landeck / Zams and Ötztal Bahnof, which will be active until July 2nd, will also be expanded with the new schedule from June 13th. Further information is available at www.vvt.at or via the VVT SmartRide app. (TT.com)
