Former granman of the Trio-Indigenous people in Suriname, Ashongo Alalaparoe, died yesterday in the Wanica Regional Hospital, from the consequences of infection with the corona virus.

The former village chief belonged to a risk group. He had underlying conditions.

Alalaparoe was granman of the Trios from 1997 to 2021 and lived in Kwamalasamutu. In September this year, due to old age and illness, he handed over the office to his grandson Jimmy Toeroemang.
