“Human rights on and off the pitch”, that is what the Norwegian national team demanded with T-shirts at the beginning of the qualification for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Top striker Erling Haaland was also part of the action. The BVB star is now surprising with a video on Twitter and is causing a great uproar in his home country!
The two good results against Turkey (1: 1) and Montenegro (2: 0) almost take a back seat in Norway. Haaland is absent as he was last due to muscle problems and posts a short video on social media that shows him training. “At the shop,” he writes. But the jersey of the Boca Juniors that he wears causes a stir. The Qatari airline Qatar Airways is emblazoned as a sponsor on the 21-year-old’s chest.
World Cup boycott called for
We remember how the Norwegian selection protested twice before qualifying matches with their T-shirt campaigns against the World Cup in Qatar. A boycott of the tournament was even called for in Scandinavia. After the Norwegians, the DFB-Elf positioned themselves – albeit controversial – against the human rights violations in the emirate.
The fact that Haaland is now showing himself with this logo, of all things, causes head shaking for national coach Stale Solbakken. «Erling does not represent us when he is not with us. But if I could choose, he would wear a different jersey, ”said the 53-year-old.
In Argentina, however, the Haaland video is causing enthusiasm. The striker got the jersey from his ex-team-mate Leonardo Balerdi (now Marseille), as he himself confirmed to the Argentine media. (smi)
