Football: bitter debut for Lukaku, Milan win 2-1 in Rome and score their third win in a row

Rome, 1 Sept. – (Adnkronos) – AC Milan’s winning streak continues with their third success in as many league games and remains at the top of Serie A with full points. At the Olimpico, the Rossoneri dominated for 60′: in the 9th minute Giroud scored from a penalty granted for a foul intervention by Rui Patricio on Loftus Cheek. Pioli’s team doubled in the 3rd minute of the second half with a great goal from Leao, then Milan remained in 10 in the 61st minute for Tomori’s double yellow and the match changed with the home team growing and becoming dangerous. Lukaku made his debut in the 70th minute. In the recovery Spinazzola shortens but it’s too late and for Roma the championship is uphill with only one point in 3 days and already eight lengths away from the top. Milan, strengthened by the certainties acquired in the first two days, immediately try to play the game and look for spaces in the yellow and red defense, which instead confirms the difficulties already seen against Salernitana and Verona. After just nine minutes Loftus-Cheek enters the opposing area too easily; Rui Patricio touches him and Rapuano, after the review, concedes the penalty. Giroud is infallible and carries forward the Rossoneri, who contain the timid reaction of the landlords, never capable of worrying Maignan for at least an hour. Everything seems easy for the guests, who take advantage of the quality of their midfielders and the continuous movement of the forwards. Pulisic is one step away from doubling, which arrives on time at the start of the second half: Leao also unlocks, with a nice acrobatic goal. Milan have the game in hand and Pioli thinks about the first changes, the suspects are Loftus-Cheek and Tomori, both booked, but the defender extends Belotti and forces Rapuano to draw a second yellow card. An ingenuity that dirties a practically perfect performance. The episode reignites the challenge. The Capitoline take courage and, after a shot by El Shaarawy, try everything: Mourinho relies on Lukaku, welcomed by an ovation, while Pioli changes the attacking wingers (Chukwueze and Okafor take over Pulisic and Leao). The former Inter player wants to show off right away, even if he doesn’t receive playable balls in the penalty area. Roma revived in injury time: Spinazzola made it 1-2 in the 92nd minute, but the final assaults didn’t change the result and the only thrill came from Maignan’s empty exit.
