Foot: the European Super League is buried “for at least 20 years”, assures Ceferin –

The short-lived Super League project, a private competition that nearly imploded European football last year, “is over” for “at least twenty years,” said UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.

First I don’t like to call it Super League, because it’s anything but Super League“, sighed the Slovenian leader after the 46th Congress of his organization in Vienna, a year after a 45th edition poisoned by the surprise mutiny of 12 major European clubs.

I think this project is over for good, or for at least 20 years“, said Mr. Ceferin during a press conference, while 3 clubs – Juventus Turin, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona – still proclaim their ambition to bring this private tournament to a successful conclusion.

“Respect the courts”

Aleksander Ceferin did not wish to comment on the possible resumption of UEFA’s disciplinary proceedings against the 3 mutineers – frozen last year, after an injunction from a Spanish court which has just been invalidated on appeal -, while that proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) are also underway. “We must respect the courts and wait for a final decision“, commented Ceferin.
