First daycare child (4) in Pforzheim infected

The first daycare child in Germany has been infected with the monkeypox virus. According to the Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Integration RTL confirmed this. The Pforzheimer Zeitung had previously reported on the case. According to the ministry, the infected person is a four-year-old girl from Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg.

The child has not shown any symptoms of the disease so far and is said to have contracted it from an infected family member. The child and another household member are now under health surveillance. Outside of the family, there are said to have been no other close contacts. Nevertheless, many are wondering whether the virus could now spread in daycare centers and schools.
