First case of monkeypox confirmed in the Central Valleys region of Oaxaca

The Oaxaca Health Services (SSO) confirmed the first monkeypox case in the entity, verified by the General Directorate of Epidemiology (DGE) of the federal Ministry of Health.

Virginia Sánchez Ríos, head of the unit, specified that it is a 27-year-old male, originally from the Central Valleys region, with a history of having traveled to Mexico City.

The young man was treated at the Urban Health Center Number 1, located in the city of Oaxaca, where the sample was taken, giving a confirmatory result by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE) “, he detailed.

He added that the patient is isolated, stable and is being treated in a medical unit of this dependency.

The official said that epidemiological surveillance was activated and recommended, “not to be alarmed and stay informed through official sources.”
