DThe lockdown is long over, offices and shops are allowed to open. Central bank chief Andrew Bailey has urged the population to return to business to restart the downturned economy after the Corona shutdown. The Johnson government is also calling for everyone to return to work. But the London financial center remains strangely quiet.
Where in the past tens of thousands of bankers, the men in suits and the women in costumes, every morning the escalators of the Canary Wharf subway station climbed up and crowded towards the skyscrapers of the banks, only a few people can be seen today. There are large black signs on the streets with rules of conduct for “social distancing”. But that is hardly necessary. There are so few people that they can easily keep their distance.
