FilGoal | News | Spanish report: Espanyol abandons Wu Li to make room for Marmoush… and the value of the potential deal

Espanyol is striving to sign Egyptian Omar Marmoush from Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window.

The La Grada website, which specializes in Espanyol news, stated that the Spanish club has been watching the Egyptian player for some time.

The report indicated that Espanyol is currently working to sell the duo: Chinese Wu Lei and Argentine Matias Vargas.

The biggest obstacle to Marmoush’s inclusion was the lack of a place for a player from outside the European Union on Marmoush’s list.

But with Wu Lei’s move to Shanghai Port imminent, and the departure of Argentine Vargas, the path will be open for Marmoush to sign.

Espanyol is seeking to strengthen the left wing position, and it is expected that Marmoush will not receive a high salary.

Espanyol also wants to take advantage of the remaining one year in the Marmoush contract with Wolfsburg to join for 4 or 5 million euros.

The German newspaper “Kicker” reported a few days ago that 3 European clubs are interested in the inclusion of Marmoush.

The report stated that the three clubs are Espanyol, in addition to the English Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

Marmoush played on loan last season to Stuttgart, and the previous season with St. Pauli in the German second division.

Marmoush led his current team, Wolfsburg, to cross Jena in the 64th round of the German Cup, with a fatal goal, in his first official appearance with the team after returning from loan.

Marmoush contributed 10 goals and eight assists with St. Pauli and Stuttgart in 42 matches.

Espanyol has known major changes in its technical management after the end of last season, in which the team ranked 14th in the Spanish League.

Coach Vicente Moreno was sacked, and Diego Martinez was signed, who led Granada to the quarter-finals of the European League two seasons ago.

The Chinese administration also removed Francisco Roveti from the position of sports director, and replaced him with Domingo Catuera.

The team gave up Diego Lopez, David Lopez, Victor Gomez, Alvaro Vadio, Miguel Yambrik, Oscar Melindo, Fran Merida, Didac Villa, Auer Olazabal, with the end of the loan of Yanchel Herrera, Manu Morlanes and Lauren Moron.

On the other hand, Espanyol contracted with Dutchman Tony Venetia on a permanent basis, and included striker Joselo for free, full-back Brian Olivan, French goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte, and midfielder Vinicius Sousa.
