A passenger armed the evacuation sleeve of a TAP plane after getting fed up with waiting inside the aircraft for the flight departure order to be given. The episode took place at Lisbon airport this Saturday, July 17th.
The passenger will have armed the plane’s evacuation sleeve after waiting for two hours inside the plane, according to what the JE found. However, the passenger did not jump out of the aircraft.
The aircraft with registration CS-TXF was supposed to leave at 10 am today for Accra, the capital of Ghana in West Africa, but it did not take off.
Questioned by the JE, TAP confirmed that this “morning on flight TP1523 Lisbon-Accra, when the aircraft was still on the ground, a passenger had the emergency cuff inflated. There was no departure of passengers through this route”.
But this incident “caused the plane, an A321LR, to be immobilized, as it will have to be repaired by maintenance. The passengers were disembarked and TAP is working to solve their journeys”.
This plane is part of a batch of 100 flights so far, which were canceled this Saturday due to a strike by Groundforce workers who demand the stabilization of the company’s financial situation. Since February of this year, workers have been worried about receiving their salary at the end of the month, with delays in the payment of salaries having already been registered. This year’s vacation pay has also not yet been paid to workers.
