Jaap Stam has to leave FC Cincinnati. The Dutch trainer was fired immediately due to disappointing results.
The 49-year-old Stam lost 4-2 to DC United last weekend. It was the thirteenth loss in the Eastern Conference in 25 games. There were eight draws and only four wins. Only Toronto fared worse this season.
FC Cincinnati president Jeff Berding saw no option but to fire Stam. “It was clear that a change was necessary. Therefore, after much deliberation, the club has made the decision to look to the future now and no longer continue with Jaap.”
Assistant coach Said Bakkati, who started at Cincinnati at the same time as Stam, also has to leave the club.
Tyrone Marshall, the coach of the Under 23 team, will take over Stam’s duties for the time being while the search for a new head coach continues.
