Russian nationalist journalist Zakhar Prilepin’s car exploded in Nizhny Novgorod. The man survived but is injured. The emergency services said so, as reported by the TASS agency. Moscow blames the United States and Great Britain, while for Kiev the writer was the victim of the Kremlin’s repression.
Explosion in Nizhny Novgorod seriously injured Russian writer Prilepin
According to initial reports, a bomb may have been placed under the vehicle. According to the Ria Novosti news agency, a suspect has been arrested.
The writer is a veteran of the war in Chechnya, where he was part of the special anti-terrorist units of the Russian police. Prilepin was in the village of Pionerskoye, about 400 kilometers east of Moscow, on a family vacation.
The conditions of the Russian nationalist writer are serious while his driver died in the explosion of the car in which they were travelling. This was stated by regional representatives of the Russian Interior Ministry to the Interfax agency. There are no other injuries.
A supporter of the separatists of Donbass
Prilepin, 47, was a former member of the National Bolshevik Party, which was later outlawed. Later he joined the Just Russia party, supporting nationalist positions. Since 2014 he has been involved in supporting the separatists of the Ukrainian Donbass.
Not only with writings and frequent television appearances, but also concretely. Until 2018, in fact, he commanded a battalion fighting among the forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.
Flown to Moscow?
“An ambulance air was sent to Nizhny Novgorod to transport Prilepin. He should be transported to a Moscow hospital for treatment,” the emergency services explained. Prilepin was wounded in the legs in the explosion. According to an initial reconstruction, the writer’s coup guard saw some men approaching the car and chased them away.
“They were supposed to be spying on Prilepin and planted the bomb under his car. The search is ongoing,” the authorities said.
Meanwhile, a man was detained in Nizhny Novgorod on suspicion of involvement in the assassination attempt on blogger and war correspondent Prilepin. This was reported by the Ria Novosti agency, quoting the press service of the Ministry of the Interior. For the Russian commission of inquiry, the attack “is a terrorist act”.
Moscow accuses USA and Great Britain
The attack against Prilepin follows those in which two other well-known media supporters of the intervention in Ukraine were killed: in August last year Darya Duginadaughter of the nationalist philosopher Alexander Duginand last month Vladlen Tatarsky (born Maxim Fomin).
According to Moscow, the United States and Great Britain bear “direct responsibility” for the attack carried out today against Prilepin, one of the best-known Russian bloggers and war correspondents, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman writes on Telegram Maria Zakharova.
“Washington and NATO have nurtured another international terrorist cell, the Kiev regime,” wrote Zakharova. “Bin Laden, ISIS, and now Zelensky with his criminals, the direct responsibility of the US and Great Britain”, added the spokeswoman, before concluding: “Let us pray for Zakhar”.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak has accused the Russians themselves of being behind the assassination attempt on Zakhar Prilepin.
