Eating meals after 6 pm is not necessarily a bad thing, and it does not automatically contribute to increasing marking and causing obesity. But for what is known as the evening fasting, which is recommended in many diet guides, there are several features that benefit the soul and body.

According to Zelke Restmayer of the German Dietetic Association (DGE), a “total energy balance” is the norm. “If you eat a lot or all the time anyway, then the evening is often the time to continue eating, as the chocolate chips on the sofa are present after the hearty dinner,” Ristmayr explains.

In this case, “the rule not to eat after 6 pm, if followed, helps slow down the energy supply to the body,” says Restmaier. In doing so, the metabolism process gives a much-needed break from eating. The German nutritionist explains that “the more you eat, the more you eat.” In this case, evening fasting is useful.

But in principle, there is nothing healthily preventing you from eating a hot meal in the evening, if you had had enough of a small piece of bread, for example, in the afternoon, says Wrestmayr.
