The EU has initiated infringement proceedings against almost all EU member states due to inadequate implementation of the directive on posted workers. 24 of 27 member states are affected by these infringement proceedings – including Austria. Various national provisions have not been harmonized with the EU directive, the commission said on Thursday. Starting today, the EU countries have two months to implement the necessary measures. Otherwise the second warning is due.
The communication does not reveal what exactly Austria is being held responsible for. The EU Commission only emphasizes the content and purpose of the directive. It aims to “strengthen the practical application of the rules on posting of workers by addressing issues related to the fight against fraud and circumvention, access to information and administrative cooperation between EU Member States”.
