Roger Federer raised the equivalent of almost 4 million euros for his foundation by auctioning off old equipment.

With the proceeds of 4 million euros, the estimated value was exceeded by more than three times, announced the London auction house Christie’s. Exquisite collector’s items such as a racket from the 2007 Wimbledon final against Rafael Nadal and the shoes of Roger Federer’s only triumph at the 2009 French Open were auctioned. A total of 320 personal “RF” items went under the hammer.

A live auction took place on June 23rd – bidding was possible online from that day until July 14th. Federer’s Foundation takes care of educational projects for disadvantaged children in Africa and Switzerland.

Money flows into his mother’s home

The 39-year-old veteran, whose mother comes from South Africa, was last eliminated in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and canceled his Olympic participation in Tokyo due to knee problems.

The long-time world number one is – like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal recently – with 20 Grand Slam titles. It is unclear when the Basel bidder will return to the ATP tour.
