Emergencies and the Madrid City Council ask citizens not to leave home if it is not “strictly” necessary

The Madrid authorities have asked citizens to stay in their homes and avoid travel due to the red alert due to the risk of heavy rains and storms.

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, explained that this afternoon and tonight will be “complicated”, since it is expected that the rainfall record is broken since records have been kepts. For this reason, he has asked that you not leave home “unless it is strictly necessary” given the red alert throughout the region due to rains that could leave up to 120 liters per square meter this Sunday.

Emergencies in Madrid has also requested that caution is exercised given the worsening forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) of rainfall that can leave up to 40 milliliters in one hour.

The situation will worsen in the afternoon

Faced with this situation, the City Council has convened this morning a coordination meeting at the Integrated Security and Emergency Center (CISEM) with those responsible for all the services involved, chaired by the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, to address all the measures activated since Friday within the Flood Action Plan (PAINUNAM).

As of this afternoon, the rains are expected to be more intense, so in case of returning to the capital, drivers are recommended to bring their return forward.

If the private vehicle is used, priority must be used to use highways and stay away from riverstorrents, hillside areas and avoid crossing flooded sections.

The City Council recalls the importance of keep gutters and drains cleantake shelter in buildings that protect from lightning and avoid crossing wooded areas, and at home, close doors and windows, since currents attract lightning.

The DGT warns of flooding on several roads in Madrid

The DGT has requested this Sunday “very careful” on the roads, where the effects of the flooding caused by the heavy rains are already noticeable, and even prevent travel in the Community of Madrid and neighboring areas, where the red alert level has been activated.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m., the heavy rainfall caused by the DANA, which has affected a large part of the country since yesterday, was already cutting off numerous roads, the DGT reported.

Thus, so far this day, different roads of the secondary network have been affected: in Castellón the N-340 has been cut in Vinaròs; in Valencia, the V-31 in Silla; in Tarragona on the T-331 and C12 in Tortosa, the N-340 in Alcanar and the TV-3443 in Amposta. In Toledo on the CN-15, the N-410 in Tembleque and on the TO 3077 in Villacañas.
