There was a severe earthquake off the holiday island of Crete. Depending on the measurement, it is indicated with a strength of 6.2 or 6.3.
The epicenter is around 20 kilometers east of the island. This was announced by the Athens Geodynamic Institute. According to eyewitnesses, the earth shook for at least 29 seconds.
Only at the end of September was Crete hit by a magnitude 5.8 quake. One aftershock had a magnitude of 5.3. At that time a person died, houses and infrastructure were partially badly damaged.
