Dutch girl drowned in swimming pool at French campsite | NOW

A Dutch girl drowned last weekend in a swimming pool of a campsite on the French west coast. The child’s hair became tangled in a water treatment plant.

It concerns a nine-year-old girl from Breda, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told French media previously reported that it was an eight-year-old child.

The spokesperson calls it a “sad accident” and says that the Dutch embassy in Paris is in contact with the family.

The accident happened in the municipality of Les Sables-d’Olonne. The girl was pulled from the water by a bystander and the lifeguard, but help was of no avail.

The French emergency services have sent a team of specialists by helicopter from Nantes 77 kilometers to the north, but they too were unable to resuscitate the child.

Justice in Les Sables-d’Olonne is investigating the cause of the accident, local media reported.
