A violent explosion damaged no less than twenty homes and caused a slight injury in Antwerp during the night from Saturday to Sunday, the local police communicated.
The explosion took place around 3:00 am in the vicinity of Franklin Roosevelt Square. One person was slightly injured due to shards of glass.
The damage concerns at least fifteen houses in four streets, but it is above all a question of broken glass. The residence which is suspected of having been the target of the explosion is on the other hand more extensively damaged. Five vehicles were also damaged.
The firefighters went to the scene and a large security perimeter was erected. Several people from the neighborhood came out of their homes. Residents are asked to stay outside as the broken glass is extensive.
The army’s laboratory and explosive ordnance disposal (Sedee) service are on the scene, and an investigation has been opened. Police suspect the incident is drug-related, although no leads have been ruled out, according to spokesman Wouter Bruyns.
