As reported, the accident happened last Saturday in the Sonnentherme in Lutzmannsburg. According to the police, a bather at the pool noticed at around 12.45 p.m. that a child was floating motionless in the water. The witness reacted promptly and pulled the girl out of the pool.

A doctor who was visiting the thermal baths immediately rushed to help and carried out resuscitation measures. Despite a rescue chain that was quickly initiated, the five-year-old didn’t stand a chance. The doctors at the Vienna-Donaustadt clinic lost the fight to save little Dunija.
The child must have drowned. A confirmation of the unofficial cause of death is expected in official circles from the ordered autopsy.
There was no help for the five-year-old daughter after a swimming accident, she died in the hospital. Dunija would have celebrated her sixth birthday in July.

Negligent homicide?
The focus of the surveys is the father from Vienna. Was Dunija’s dad inattentive and violated his duty of care? This is the question that investigators ask themselves. The suspicion of negligent homicide is being investigated on behalf of the Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office.

The father had only been at the thermal baths with his daughter for half an hour when the accident happened. The child had fallen into the torrent basin in an unobserved moment.
It also has to be checked whether Dunija jumped, as initially reported, or whether the five-year-old fell into the water. According to the current information, the girl is said to have played on a slide shortly before the bathing accident.

According to the state police, an exact reconstruction of the family tragedy should only be possible after reviewing the video recordings that the thermal baths management handed over to the authorities. “The image material must be examined and evaluated,” said Monday afternoon in Eisenstadt.
