DOMOTEX exhibition: positive assessment for Moroccan participation in Germany

The hand-knotted Moroccan rug “Morocco Handmade” was in the spotlight from January 12 to 15 at the 33th edition of the DOMOTEX exhibition thus contributing to the international influence of the art of Moroccan weaving. Indeed, after a two-year hiatus, DOMOTEX, the largest European trade show for floor coverings, brought together more than 1,000 exhibitors and around 40,000 visitors this year: carpet and floor covering trade professionals, interior designers and decorators from all over the world.

During this edition, visitors were able to have access to new collections, trends and innovations of the different product lines (traditional and modern handmade carpets, mats, carpets, elastic floor coverings, parquet, etc.). A true barometer of trends in the carpet sector, this show is also an essential crossroads for developing partnerships and prospecting new markets.

Moroccan participation in this great mass highlighted, in a space of 502 m2 fitted out by the Maison de l’Artisan, seven craft companies specializing in tribal carpets, from Marrakech, Assilah and Khemisset. These companies, which have also benefited from support in terms of visibility and referencing as part of the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, were able to present their latest collections highlighting the exceptional know-how of Moroccan weavers and the incredible diversity of patterns, designs and colors that captivated visitors.

In addition, on the sidelines of this international trade show, representatives of the Maison de l’Artisan held a series of meetings with international operators in order to strengthen the presence of Moroccan carpets on international markets and to open up new prospects for partnerships for the benefit of Moroccan operators.

It should be remembered that the handmade tribal rug is one of the most demanded Moroccan handicraft products internationally. It thus represented, at the end of November 2022, 21% of exports of Moroccan handicraft products with a growth of + 79% compared to the same period of 2021. The United States, Germany and France are the three main export markets for Moroccan carpets with respective shares of 35%, 20% and 15%.
