Do FFP2 masks really protect against Covid-19 better than surgical masks?

Question from Elodie

Do FFP2 masks really protect against Covid-19 better than surgical masks?

According to a study by researchers from the University of Göttingen, Germany, and Cornell University, United States, if two people discuss, 1.50 meters apart, the risk that one of them between them is contaminated is 90% in a few minutes without a mask, 30% after half an hour if each wears a surgical mask and 0.4% after an hour if they wear FFP2 masks.

If these figures are better, there is however no scientific study showing that a generalization of these masks had a positive impact on the scale of the population against Covid-19.

The French government therefore asked the HCSP, one of the bodies that advise it on health policy, its opinion on a generalization.

Cordially.
