Daniela Ryf wins fifth world title, Joanna Ryter in top 20

Daniela Ryf is back! After a complicated 2021, the Solothurn was crowned Ironman World Champion in Saint George, United States.

In Utah, the now five-time World Champion forced the decision on the bike course to win in 8:34:59. She completed the marathon in less than three hours. “It’s a big day for me. The last ten kilometers were very hard. But winning in front of such an audience and in front of my team, which has supported me enormously in recent months, is extraordinary.” She was nearly 9 minutes ahead of Britain’s Kat Matthews.

Last year, the 34-year-old athlete faced health issues. She had also put an end to her collaboration with her trainer Brett Sutton.

In the men’s category, the victory went to Norwegian Kristian Blummenfelt. Victorious in 7h49’16”, the Tokyo Olympic champion was nearly five minutes ahead of Canadian Braden Currie.

Competing for seniors, the Yverdonnois Renaud de Pury took second place in the 55-59 age category in 10:23:58.
