An investigation ofMessengers of Peace, carried out by Sigma Dos among 600 people over 65, showed that68% of Spaniards believe that the figure of the elderly is little (46.1%) or nothing (21.9%) valued by society. Only 6% think they are very well valued.
In this sense, the founder and president of the organization, Father Ángel, has claimed that "it is vital to sensitize society to the importance of the figure of grandparents in communities."
On the other hand, according to this research, when older people need help, 40.8% turn to their closest relatives and friends, while 6% say they have no one to turn to. Thus, from Messengers of Peace, they express the importance of valuing the figure of the elders, "that they feel recognized" and that, through celebrations, like thisGrandparents Day 2019, know that you are not alone and have someone to count on.
The study also reflects thatpensions are another major concern of this group, since 40% of the respondents indicate that their current pension does not allow them to maintain the standard of living they had before they retired.
