Cycling team Jumbo-Visma breaks down Spanish training camp because of corona

Cycling team Jumbo-Visma has immediately ended the training camp in Alicante, Spain. The reason is a corona case within the formation. It is not known who it is.

The positively tested rider or staff member and those who have been in close contact with him remain in quarantine, the rest have already left a day after arrival or continue to train individually in Spain.

‘Doomsday scenario’

“The doomsday scenario has come true,” says performance manager Mathieu Heijboer. “But it is a scenario that we had already taken into account.” Jumbo-Visma had therefore already limited mutual contacts to a minimum.

Team boss Richard Plugge emphasizes that the consequences, unlike football clubs that have had to break off their training camp, are not very great for his drivers. “We would prefer to be together with the whole team, of course, but a cyclist can also train well individually.”
