Crime in the final! Finland beats Canada and is world champion

Finland are world champions in 2022. In a tight final at home, the Finns were able to fight back after falling behind – and in the end held their ground against Canada.

Ice hockey Olympic champions Finland won their fourth title at the World Championships in their own country and were the second team to win the double. Like neighboring Sweden 16 years ago, coach Jukka Jalonen’s team also secured the World Cup after the Olympic triumph with a 4:3 (0:0, 0:1, 3:2, 1:0) after extra time in the final against defending champion Canada -Gold.

Mikael Granlund (45th/46th), Joel Armia (55th) and Sakari Manninen (67th) as the decisive man scored the goals for the Finns, who thus successfully avenged the 2-3 defeat after extra time in the final last year year in Riga.

Dylan Cozens (25th), Zach Whitecloud (58th) and Max Comtois (59th) scored for the Canadians, who are still the record world champions with Russia with 27 world titles. The Sbornaja had been excluded from the World Cup because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
