For the World Health Organization (WHO), the virus is here to stay with us
Cold shower for those who hoped for a return to normal life. In any case, at a time when several States of the world are carrying out a spectacular vaccination campaign to achieve collective immunity as soon as possible, the WHO (World Health Organization) is dashing all hopes.
Indeed, this Wednesday, on the sidelines of a press briefing relayed by several media including CNBCMike Ryan, Executive Director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies program, broke the bad news to the world. “I think the virus is here to stay with us and it will mutate like the flu. It will mutate to become one of the other viruses that will infect us, ”he said.
“The pandemic is far from over”
Faced with the press, Mike Ryan surrendered. “People said, ‘we are going to eliminate or eradicate the virus. Now, that is no longer possible, it is very unlikely that it will happen, ”he laments. According to the channel CBNC who quotes Maria Van Kerkhove, another WHO personality, the measures that had to be taken were not taken at the very beginning of the pandemic.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that the World Health Organization has made such an alarmist prediction. Indeed, last July, during an emergency committee that met in Geneva, the organization predicted the possible appearance of new variants.
“The pandemic is far from over,” warned the committee, which added that the variants to come could pose more problems than Delta, which has already plunged the world into a new health crisis.
