A pathologist explains that many more people have died with Covid-19 than the statistics show. Their conclusion: Covid-19 is more dangerous than many think…
In an interview with web.de explains the pathologist Kirsten Mertz, who works at the Cantonal Hospital Baselland, that a larger number of people died of Covid-19 in Switzerland than the statistics show. How can this be possible?
More patients died of Covid-19 than officially confirmed
With her team, she led an investigation in which she assumes that more patients have died from the corona virus than official data claims.
The excess mortality noted according to the statistics in the period of the first and second wave was not plausible based on the numbers, so the experts look again at numerous autopsy patients during this time.
“High number of undiscovered infected people”
In doing so, they discover “a large number of undiscovered infected people,” as Mertz explains. In its investigation, the team found that more people carried the SARS-CoV-2 virus than indicated at the time of death.
While this does not automatically mean that the cause of death in these unrecorded cases is due to Covid-19, numerous autopsy patients show an association with organ failure, which in turn is linked to the coronavirus. She explains:
In the lung tissue, for example, we found signs of severe inflammation typical of COVID-19. In one patient we found blood clots in the coronary arteries, with subsequent heart attack and heart failure. We assume that in our study group, five additional people who were not statistically recorded died of COVID-19. This would mean the number of deaths was eight percent higher than originally assumed.
Covid-19 can ‘infect pretty much every organ in the body’
In addition, pathologist Kirsten Mertz warns that the corona virus can attack the body more extensively than many think. So she explains in an interview web.de:
In addition to the respiratory tract and the lungs, the corona virus can infect almost every organ in the body. In our examinations, for example, we found it in the heart tissue or thyroid gland in 12 of the 28 deceased, in the kidneys and adrenal glands in eight, in the pancreas in six and in the liver in five of the 28. The virus can also show up in the brain, umbilical cord, and placenta, as others have shown.
One discovery about the course of SARS-CoV-2 that was made thanks to autopsies is the infection of fat cells by the coronavirus. She explains the consequences for our society:
The virus can cause inflammation, sometimes severe, in adipose tissue. This is a very important point. Especially since we live in a world that is not only struggling with a corona pandemic, but also with an obesity pandemic.
