➤ The Bavarian government increases the pressure on those who refuse to be vaccinated
The state government in Bavaria is increasing the pressure on people who do not want to be vaccinated against Corona. After Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) was open to chargeable corona tests, Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) also commented favorably on the idea.
“At some point the point will be reached where the majority of people in this country will have to answer the question of why the solidarity community pays and gives away 15 euros every day for a quick test so that vaccinators can continue shopping or take part in public events,” said Holetschek the “Bild am Sonntag”.
The costs should, however, continue to be covered for those who have not yet been able to be vaccinated – for example children, pregnant women and people with certain previous illnesses. Holetschek is currently chairman of the conference of health ministers.
Söder had recently said: “Testing costs enormous sums of money”. Therefore, it must also be considered whether the corona tests could remain free if everyone had received a vaccination offer.

Fire at vaccination center in south-west France – fire intentionally set
7:20 pm: There was a fire in a vaccination center in southwest France. The fire in Urrugne was probably set on purpose, reported the French broadcaster France Bleu with reference to the responsible public prosecutor on Sunday. Accordingly, part of the tent of the vaccination center was on fire on Sunday night. France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin condemned the incident on Twitter. Those responsible would have to be severely punished.
Just the day before, France’s Prime Minister Jean Castex had traveled to the south-west and visited a vaccination center about 20 kilometers from what would later be the scene of the fire. According to the broadcaster France Info, there had already been an attack on a vaccination center on Saturday night. The facility in the south-east of Lans-en-Vercors had been devastated.
U-turn after outrage: Johnson is in self-isolation
2:12 pm: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to go into self-isolation after contacting his COVID-19 health minister Sajid Javid. The government seat announced Downing Street – only hours after a spokesman announced the opposite.
At first it was said that Johnson and his Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak would take part in a pilot project and therefore take daily tests instead of self-isolation. The decision had sparked an outcry over hundreds of thousands of Britons currently sitting at home after being asked to quarantine for ten days by the National Health Service (NHS) for contact with an infected person.
For Johnson, who, according to the government, is currently at his Checkers estate, the incident comes at an inopportune time. Almost all corona measures in England are to be lifted on Monday. Although the number of infections is currently increasing dramatically. The government justifies this with the high vaccination rate.
Newspaper: Delta variant on Mallorca at 85 percent
12:54 pm: In Mallorca, according to a report by the newspaper “Mallorca Zeitung”, the delta variant of the corona virus, which is considered more contagious, is now found in 85 percent of all samples. The seven-day incidence on the Germans’ favorite vacation island had risen to a good 270 by Friday. For the Balearic Islands as a whole, in addition to Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, this value is given as 290, the newspaper wrote on Sunday. According to the health authorities, the so-called R value was 1.63. The number means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 163 more people.
Almost two thirds of the population over the age of 16 (65.7 percent) have received at least one corona vaccination, 51.8 percent are fully vaccinated. The positive rate of the corona tests was 11.88 percent. Even if it is mainly young people who become infected, who usually only show mild symptoms, the health system is slowly coming under pressure again. The newspaper wrote that ten percent of the beds in intensive care units are again occupied by corona patients.
Altmaier: No more lockdown! Middle class is concerned
11:28 am: For Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU), another closure of shops and restaurants in the corona crisis is out of the question. “We must and will prevent a new lockdown. It would be devastating for many shops and restaurants that have been closed for months,” said Altmaier of “Bild am Sonntag”. As long as there is no threat of overloading the health system, there is no reason for new measures. Vaccinated or younger people usually have no symptoms at all in the event of an infection, and intensive care beds in Germany are far from their utilization limit.
From the perspective of medium-sized businesses, Altmaier’s statements are indirectly a cause for concern. “Because apparently he is reacting to corresponding considerations in the federal government,” said the managing director of the Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises (BVMW), Markus Jerger, of the German press agency.
Speculation about it alone unsettles companies and prevents investments. “Instead of speculating about new coercive measures, the federal government should send a positive signal to the economy.” The Union must “finally” prevail against its coalition partner and provide relief for taxes, levies and energy costs.
Altmaier also spoke out in favor of more speed and offers on site for vaccinations. And: “We should consider limiting major events such as concerts or football games to vaccinated and recovered visitors. A negative test alone should not be sufficient for this in the long term.” However, the minister rejected rewards for those willing to vaccinate.
Despite contact with the infected: No self-isolation for Johnson
10:31 am: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not go into self-isolation despite having had contact with his COVID-19 health minister, Sajid Javid. This was announced by the seat of government Downing Street.
Johnson and Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak have been contacted by the NHS health service contact tracing unit but are participating in a pilot project that involves daily testing rather than self-isolation, the statement said. That allows them to continue working from Downing Street. Health Minister Javid announced yesterday on Twitter that he had tested positive for the corona virus.
In the UK, large numbers of people are currently being called on not to leave their home for ten days because they have come into contact with infected people. Hundreds of thousands of students are therefore unable to attend classes.

Infection trend continues – double-digit incidence again
09:02 am: The seven-day incidence has jumped to a double-digit value in Germany. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value in the morning as 10 (previous day: 9.4 a week ago 6.2). Within one day, the health authorities in Germany reported 1,292 new corona infections to the RKI. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:14 a.m. For comparison: a week ago the value was 745 infections.
The incidence has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June. In the future, other values such as hospital admissions are to be taken into account to a greater extent.
According to the new information, 3 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 6 dead. The RKI has counted 3,744,681 detected infections with SARS-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,639,300. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with SARS-CoV-2 rose to 91,362.
Schwesig also for a new “warning value” for the corona situation
08:47 am: After the Rhineland-Palatinate head of government Malu Dreyer, the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig, is pushing for a new “warning value” to assess the corona situation. “I expressly support the proposal that the federal and state governments agree on a new national warning value for the corona situation,” said the SPD politician in the newspapers of the Funke media group. “In the future, we must take greater account of vaccinations and hospital burdens.”
Schwesig referred to the traffic light model applicable in her state, which takes into account the seven-day incidence, the number of COVID patients in the hospital and the utilization of the intensive care units. Dreyer had previously called for a “new warning value” to assess the corona situation in Germany. With increasing vaccination rates, the seven-day incidence is much less informative today than it was six months ago.
Netherlands and Greece now corona risk areas
07:26 am: Due to the sharp increase in the number of infections, the Netherlands, Greece and parts of Denmark have been risk areas for the German authorities since midnight. According to the announcement from the Robert Koch Institute published on Friday, the Federal Foreign Office advises against tourist trips to these countries and regions.
For the Netherlands and the Danish capital region around Copenhagen, this also has practical consequences: Anyone who enters Germany by land from there and has not been vaccinated or recovered must take a corona test again. The Faroe Islands, which are part of the Kingdom of Denmark, are now also risk areas. The Netherlands is the first of Germany’s nine neighboring countries to be fully classified as a risk area again. Overseas territories belonging to the kingdom are excluded.
In Greece, the number of infections has recently risen since the government eased measures for nightlife and many young, as yet unvaccinated people go out to party. Anyone returning from vacation in Greece must either be tested, recovered or vaccinated.
Altmaier advocates a “corona flood flat rate” of 10,000 euros
05:05 am: Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier proposes a lump sum of up to 10,000 euros for companies affected by the flood disaster in western Germany and the corona crisis.
“I advocate a corona flood flat rate of up to 10,000 euros for companies that have been hit twice as bad,” said the CDU politician of “Bild am Sonntag”.
The livelihoods of many companies in the tourism and wine-growing areas have been destroyed. But he also expects the insurance companies to quickly pay out the damage sums and that the business partners of the companies involved are accommodating.
