The hype about Corinne Suter is getting bigger
“The hardest summer of my career”
Everyone wants something from Corinne Suter (27). It’s fun, but also exhausting. How does she handle it? One thing is certain: the downhill Olympic champion has made an innovation for the winter.
It fell silent around Corinne Suter. But only for a short time. “Last season took a lot of strength. So after the winter I was really tired. I was able to relax, but soon it started again,” she says. What the 27-year-old means: One request followed the next, one invitation followed the other. And finally the Kondi training had to be. “Maybe I wasn’t used to the hype anymore because it was very quiet a year earlier because of Corona. Anyway, this summer felt like the hardest of my career.”
Suter doesn’t want to complain. “The recognition I get is beautiful. I just didn’t think so many people would follow skiing,” she says. Her fame is no accident: she was long considered a great talent who broke under pressure at crucial moments. Then came the 2019 World Championships in Are (Sd), where Suter won silver and bronze. It opened the ketchup bottle. She won both World Cup speed crystal balls in 2020, World Championship gold in 2021 and Olympic gold in 2022. More is not possible. Or? She says: «Oh yes, every race starts from scratch. And the next peak is just around the corner.”
New contract, new servant
Suter talks about the World Cup 2023 in Courchevel-Méribel (Fr). Many will probably expect miracles from her again. “On the one hand, no one can take away from me what I have achieved. On the other hand, it increases the pressure even more.”

One thing is certain: the framework conditions should also be right for Suter next winter. She recently extended her contract with Head by two years. And in Stefan Berthold, she has a new servant who is considered a “gold file”. The Austrian once prepared the boards of the super eland Aksel Lund Svindal (39) and Kjetil Jansrud (36). “He also suits me very well as a person, which is extremely important. After all, the serviceman is the last person I see before the start of a race.”
Poster on Bahnhofstrasse
Back to Suter’s growing fame. The last time she looked for her advertising poster for the watch brand Hublot on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, she couldn’t find it. “I was standing right under it. It was so big that I didn’t see it from this angle. In the store, a saleswoman then explained to me that all I have to do outside is to look up,” she says with a laugh.
