Young Boys and Basel approach the second qualifying round of the Conference League in a favorable position. Both won the first leg and seem able to continue their journey.
YB kicked off their season perfectly. Three matches, as many victories for eight goals scored and none conceded. The new trainer Raphaël Wicky could not have hoped for better. Thursday at the Wankdorf, the Bernese welcome Liepaja with the advantage of the 1-0 success acquired in Latvia. The score had poorly reflected the extent of the domination of yellow and black.
For the return, Wicky should be able to afford the luxury of revamping his starting lineup a bit. The richness of his workforce allows him to do so without affecting the team’s performance too much.
FC Basel also in a strong position
The discourse is a little different for the Rhinelanders. The 2-0 victory obtained in the first leg against the Crusaders Belfast, even having played for an hour in numerical inferiority, seems sufficient to experience a trip without bad surprises.
Alex Frei was less fortunate in the Super League, with two 1-1 draws in Winterthur and then against Servette. The new technician rotblau probably expected better.
