Cold shower for Schalke pros at DFB game: Oldenburg saves energy

No exception for football professionals: FC Schalke 04 will have to take a cold shower during the DFB Cup game – because the city of Oldenburg is saving energy.

In the DFB Cup game against the regional league club Bremer SV, the FC Schalke 04 pros have to be prepared for a cold shower. Bremer SV will play the cup game on July 31 at 1 p.m. in the Marschweg Stadium in Oldenburg.

As part of the energy crisis, the city of Oldenburg has decided on cost-cutting measures for municipal sports facilities, which will now also hit the FC Schalke 04 players coldly. For example, there is no hot water in sports facilities during the summer holidays.

A city spokesman told the “Nordwest-Zeitung” that the German Football Association (DFB) said when asked that there was no regulation in the statutes that prescribed hot water. For the time being, there is also no warm water for the third division promoted VfB Oldenburg at their home games.

Oldenburg has to meet DFB requirements at great expense

In order to meet the other requirements of the DFB, Oldenburg will have to set up a mobile floodlight system at almost every home game next season and dismantle it again after the final whistle. Because of the adjacent motorway, the Marschweg Stadium has no floodlights and no undersoil heating either.
