EHC Red Bull Munich can still dream of its first title in the ice hockey Champions League. After moving into the quarter-finals of the premier class, coach Don Jackson was full of praise for his team. “That was a team victory in every respect, there is no doubt about it,” said Jackson after the 3-2 win on Wednesday evening against HC Friborg-Gottéron from Switzerland. Especially goalie Danny from the Birken was great in the goal.

After Munich lost in the premier class final in 2019, they want to achieve the big coup this season. “Every year our team is distinguished by the fact that we are there in pressure situations,” said EHC striker Yasin Ehliz. For the third time in a row, Munich is now in the round of the last eight. The next opponent is Finland’s reigning champions Lukko Rauma. The first leg will take place on December 7th or 8th.

The three-time German ice hockey champion had to briefly fear the quarter-finals after the 4-2 win in the first leg. The guests had taken the lead within 62 seconds on Wednesday evening at the beginning of the final third thanks to Christopher Di Domenico (42nd) and Samuel Walser (43rd). But Trevor Parkes (44th), Zachary Redmond (53rd) and Philip Gogulla (60th) turned the game in favor of Upper Bavaria.

The Munich are now the last German representative in the competition. On Tuesday the Adler Mannheim lost against Frölunda HC from Sweden. The EHC also failed in the 2019 final due to the Scandinavians.
