Climate activists rain tennis balls on the Bavarian state parliament

Munich in the focus of the “Last Generation”: For weeks they have been causing sit-ins in Bavarian cities – and excitement. The developments in the news blog.

The group “Last Generation” has been making Munich a “protest stronghold” since Thursday – a general decree of the city does not stop them. The Bavarian tour of the climate activists ends in the Bavarian state capital. Before that, they caused various disruptive actions in Nuremberg, Regensburg and Würzburg.

8:05 p.m.: After the tennis ball attack on the historic west facade of the Maximilianeum by activists of the “last generation”, the Bavarian state parliament announced the consequences. “Last generation” attacks state parliament with tennis balls

3:10 p.m.: Activists of the “last generation” attacked the Bavarian state parliament in Munich at noon with tennis balls dipped in white paint. According to a press release, the group wanted to draw attention to the currently devastating storms in Bavaria with hailstones the size of tennis balls and to denounce the Bavarian government for not preventing future horror scenarios.

“While the climate catastrophe strikes in Bavaria and hailstones the size of tennis balls destroy 80 percent of a city, Söder promises help for the injured during the election campaign, but he doesn’t waste a syllable about his climate killer policy and what his contribution will be to the catastrophic development towards climate hell stop,” activist Miriam Meyer is quoted as saying in the statement.

Nine climate activists in preventive detention for two weeks – also “Climate Shakira”

9.15 a.m.: In the morning, the Munich police took stock of the operations surrounding the “last generation” blockades. It became known that a total of nine climate activists in Munich had been taken into preventive detention until September 12th. On Tuesday, three activists were initially mentioned.

One of those affected is 26-year-old Anja Windl, who repeatedly attracts attention on social media as “Climate Shakira”. The psychology student actually lives and studies in Austria, but has been in her native Bavaria for weeks because of the ongoing climate protests. According to “Bild” information, she will be in custody for the next two weeks.

A judge approved the preventive detention after the police application, according to a statement from the Munich police in the morning. The group had announced that they wanted to organize large protests in Munich by September 12th.

Activists in preventive detention for weeks – “Last Generation” still wants to continue

5.20 p.m.: Three activists of the “last generation” are in preventive detention until September 12 after the protest actions in Munich. This was confirmed by a press spokeswoman for the Munich police headquarters in an interview with t-online.

According to the organization, the police have also applied for preventive detention for 17 other supporters. They are currently in police custody. The police confirm that preventive detention has actually been requested for other activists. However, the spokeswoman could not say how many activists were involved.

The activists have meanwhile announced that they will continue their protests in Munich – even beyond the IAA. They are currently blocking the Innsbrucker Ring at the junction with Ampfingstrasse. According to the police, there will be traffic delays.

Police stop all unannounced gatherings

10.05 a.m.: As the police have now announced, all unregistered meetings of the “last generation” have ended for the time being. Occasionally, however, there are still traffic disruptions in the affected areas.
