Christopher Rüping at the Vienna Festival
He is one of the best-known theater directors in the German-speaking world: Christopher Rüping. For many, he is the theater maker of the hour, who knows better than almost anyone how to bring the issues of our time to the stage. The director, who was born in Hanover in 1985, has been celebrated by audiences and critics alike with invitations to festivals and numerous prizes. Now he is showing a production in Vienna for the first time. “The Ring of the Nibelung” can be seen at the Vienna Festival. It is not about the Richard Wagner opera of the same name, but about a rewrite, about topics such as sexism and racism – a stage plea for an open society with a DJ and new sounds from the sound desk.
