Chile already works in the opening his borders with neighboring countries and for other trips abroad. The closing of the international limits will expire, after successive extensions, on July 25.
Almost a month ago, everything was ready to announce, on Thursday, June 24, the authorization, although restricted, for trips abroad. But a few hours before, everything changed due to the confirmation of the first case of the delta variant in the country. With all the graphics already designed for the announcement, the Chilean government backed down and extended the closure of borders.
As announced by the newspaper La Tercera, there will be no more renewals, unless the pandemic surprises again. For now, Chile prepares for the opening from borders from Monday, July 26.
This thanks to the encouraging numbers that have been registered in recent months, positive cases in the contagious stage have fallen 70% and almost a third of the country’s communes register fewer than 20 infectious patients with covid-19.
New measures for the opening of borders
What is known so far is that it will not be a total flexibility of trips abroad from Chile, Instead, what is sought is to make the exit of Chileans more flexible, with a series of conditions that prevent the generation of new local outbreaks of coronavirus, and the entry of cases of the delta variant.
The Government has designed a series of measures that includes the empowerment of those Chileans who already have the complete vaccination scheme to be exempted from the four criteria that today allow them to leave the country: carrying out fundamental activities for the country, humanitarian reasons , health conditions of the applicant and trips without return.
In the case of those people not immunized against covid-19, they must continue to send an application, as has been done so far, to obtain a permit to leave the country. According to statistics from the Undersecretariat of Crime Prevention of Chile, between April 1 and July 11, 128,648 foreign travel requirements have been submitted, of which 55,864 have been approved, that is, 43.4%.
Although it is still not sure what will happen to those who enter the country when they return from their trips, it has been thought to avoid, at least for Chileans, the stay in transit hotels and replace it with a home quarantine for those who arrive and for the rest of the inhabitants of the same domicile. Measure that will be controlled through rigorous monitoring by the authorities.
The requirement to present a negative PCR test to board the plane for the return to Chile would remain. While the test that is carried out today at the Arturo Merino Benítez airport, which is applied to all people who enter the country, more than 400 per day.
But with the borders There are open doubts as to whether this measure will be effective or not, since now there is a delay of 3 hours for passengers arriving in the country and with a larger contingent it is expected that the wait at the airport to complete this process will be much longer.
“100% of the adult passengers who enter through the airport are tested and subsequently referred to a transit hotel for four days, and / or a sanitary residence if it is positive. Travelers from a sanitary hotel on day 4 must undergo a new PCR, if this is negative on the fifth day, they can leave the hotel and quarantine at home until day 10. But if the PCR is positive, the passenger he is transferred to a health residence, until he completes a quarantine of 11 days ”, they explain from the Department of Epidemiology of the Seremi de Salud of the Metropolitan Region of Chile.
