FC Wil remains leader of the Challenge League. In the top battle against Yverdon, the eastern Swiss equalize in the 94th minute to make it 1-1. FC Aarau has to settle for a goalless draw against Xamax.
In an effort to find late happiness with a corner kick, Wil goalie Noam Baumann rushed into the opposing penalty area. However, the ball came up short on the first post where Josias Lukembila was lurking. The striker deflected the deep ball with his head into the net for an acclaimed but somewhat flattering equalizer for the visitors.
The late goal was bitter for the home team, who had hardly allowed any chances after Brian Beyer had taken the lead in the 31st minute. If they won, the western Swiss would have taken the top of the table in the second highest Swiss league, but they remain two points behind Wil and could even be relegated to second place on Sunday. This if Lausanne would win the home game against Vaduz.
No goals between Xamax and Aarau
The second game on Friday also ended in a draw. No goals were scored in the duel between bottom-placed Xamax and Aarau. The closest to a goal came Aarau’s Valon Fazliu, whose shot hit the post in the 62nd minute.
