A lifetime achievement award was given to Cuban Carlos Acosta. The Prix de Lausanne Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 this year recognizes the talent of the dancer and director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet.
A prize for a life
In an official statement, a few hours ago the recognition for Carlos Acosta was announced. The Prix de Lausanne Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 will be awarded amid celebrations for the 50th anniversary of this international competition.

The Cuban artist was the winner of the gold medal at the Prix de Lausanne in 1990, although this distinction is no longer awarded today. This annual competition is held in Switzerland and is aimed at young dancers who wish to further their career in classical ballet. And it is not for less, since many of the main leaders of international ballet companies have obtained the Prix de Lausanne.
In the words of Carlos Acosta himself, this award in 1990 “really meant the beginning of my career (…). It is an opportunity to be seen by directors and show what you are capable of in the world of ballet”.
And it really happened that way Acosta. After being recognized with the Lausanne, the statement states that “his career has literally taken off, as an international artist with the Royal Ballet but also as a guest artist with prestigious companies such as the American Ballet Theatre, the Houston Ballet and the English National Ballet” and of course the Birmingham Royal Ballet that he has directed since 2020.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary, there will also be photographic exhibitions, multimedia, choreographic presentations, film premieres and of course the long-awaited contest, including an All-Star Gala on February 5.
