Instead of “Best Performer” and “Best Performer”, now only “Artist of the Year” and “Foreign Artist of the Year” will be awarded.

The Brit Awards will be dropping female and male nominations from 2022. Instead of “Best Performer” and “Best Performer” will now be awarded “Artist of the Year” and “Foreign Artist of the Year”.

This decision is explained by the desire to make the award “more relevant and inclusive” and the desire to “honor artists solely for their music and work, and not for how they identify themselves or how others may see them.”

Sam Smith and Will Young called for a change of order. They noted that the old system excludes non-binary musicians. Sam Smith missed out on this year’s nomination for being non-binary, and his album didn’t make it to the gender nominations.
