  • As an unvaccinated person, he said he was not allowed into the stadium.

  • The right-wing populist is criticized for his Corona policy.

The unvaccinated Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said he was prevented from attending a football game due to corona restrictions. Bolsonaro said on Sunday that he wanted to attend a championship game in the city of Santos, but failed to do so because of his vaccination status. «Why a vaccination pass? I wanted to see Santos now and they said I had to be vaccinated. Why should that be so? ”Bolsonaro said to journalists near Santos.

Santos said Bolsonaro did not ask to see the game in which Santos beat Gremio 1-0. The authorities have allowed football clubs to fill the stadiums up to 30 percent of their capacity during championship matches. The rules stipulate that all viewers are vaccinated and tested for the coronavirus.

Brazil was hit hard by the pandemic

The Brazilian Senate is currently investigating Bolsonaro’s handling of the pandemic. According to data from the Ministry of Health, more than 600,000 people in the country have died in connection with the corona pandemic.

The right-wing populist Bolsonaro played down the corona virus from the start and rejected protective measures and restrictions. He also doubts the sense of vaccinations and has emphasized several times that he has not yet been vaccinated against Corona. After the United States and India, the largest and most populous country in Latin America has the most infections with almost 22 million cases.

Demos against Bolsonaro’s corona policy

Tens of thousands demonstrated against Bolsonaro several times in the past few months. The demonstrators carried posters and banners with inscriptions such as “Bolsonaro out” and “Bolsonaro genocide”. They called the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, an “accomplice”. He can accept one of the dozen motions and initiate impeachment proceedings against Bolsonaro, but is considered his ally.

At the beginning of October, 600 white cloths were hung up symbolically for the corona victims on the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro – organized by the non-governmental organization “Rio de Paz”.
